Going from Ms. Marvel to The Marvels is such a whiplash. Small little community, local little mosque, we're led to care about their tiny little lives, cool look into Pakistani culture, her friend leaves for Cali- Carol shows up, teleportation, quantum this and that, super powers-

space ships, interdimensional travel, the Kree and the Skrull, aliens, tentacle cats, galactic wars, tears in the fabric of reality... All the while Kamala's family are reduced to little more than comedy relief set pieces humorously praying to Allah while crazy things happen.

Suspension of disbelief does so much work when in one episode of Ms Marvel her mom doesn't even want her to go to a con on her own, to her mom sitting there googly-eyed with a stupid, oblivious grin on the SABER station, just completely fine with everything.

Like them all being very average folks, with real-world, grounded issues, planning for a wedding, dealing with inequality and community issues in Ms Marvel... to just being completely unphased by literally every facet of their lives being obliterated every second in The Marvels...

They should've spent more time, given maybe another episode or two of breathing room to show her family actually adjusting to Kamala being what she is. Being exposed slowly to the concepts, etc Like their entire house is destroyed in the movie, and they're all just kinda. There.

Mighty Captain Marvel who went 1v1 against Thanos with a full damn gauntlet of infinity stones suddenly struggles to beat some rando with a hammer 3v1. It's absurd.
