"why did EA shut down Bioware?" Because they weren't unionized. That's literally the answer. The thing they should have made happen in the 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. If you are not unionized, you get pulverized.

Rockstar have already drawn up layoff notices for people working on GTA 6 - The biggest game release ever. Why? Because they aren't unionized. So they are fucked.
