I can understand the anguish from losing someone you looked up to politically. What sits wrong with me now is that we see none of that from some of the same people whenever children are murdered in school. Maybe we all agree it should all end

We all do agree with respect to children, generally speaking. That's why we don't talk about it. There's nothing there to sustain an argument. There's more dissonance over an adult with views people variously support or condemn, and that discord keeps people talking about it.
