I've officially hit the "Just watch the rest on YouTube" portion of Control Resonant. After a 1+ hour long traversal and cutscene rampage, I emerge into a new open world section, think "Good, now I can finally stop for a bit" and when I reloaded... it reset me back to the start of all that. NOPE.

Look, the visuals are amazing, but the combat is beyond my ability and the story isn't as interesting as I'd hoped it'd be. Rehashing every entity from Control (the Hiss are boring) means there's no real mystery here, and without that, you've got one-note characters and generic apocalypse stuff.

I really REALLY miss the more... Crafted, individual rooms and elements and entities from Control. I was hoping for a lot more of that, a lot more weird/wonky buildings, OOP, places like the motel. Gotta say it was overall not as good as I had hoped 😔

Maybe Control was one-of-one. Maybe the magic of 'faceless bureaucracy vs. cosmic horror' only works once. I don't know. But this feels like I'm finishing it just to finish it and I can give my button-mashing fingers a rest by watching the remainder.

Also, can I just say, naming them the hiss 5 minutes into the first game was a massive missed opportunity. Like, they could have left it this faceless, nameless -thing- and kept the tension and drama up for longer. But no, they name it and rip all of that away.

It doesn't even make sense because they don't HISS. There isn't a hissing noise. There's a chant, and a red light, and that's all there is. The "hiss" feels like an artifact of an earlier version of the game design, which stuck in their heads and now they don't want to get rid of it.

Right!? And like, how much more it would have hit if they'd let it build as this unnameable thing (that could have even been a facet if it's powers), and then in a binding, unifying moment Jesse gives it a name and now everyone has a face to target? Missed opportunities
