/6 I just delivered my baby in the hospital and was saddened to hear from the staff that routine vitamin K shots for babies are being rejected by parents more frequently now due to the information, without scientific basis or research evidence, being spread by the current administration. 🧪🧬👩‍🔬🍎🥽⚛️

/6 I am a chemist, not an MD, and questions and decisions should be directed at your doctors. From my understanding as a chemist: Vitamin K shots are not only safe, they are vital for newborns at risk of vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB). All newborns are at risk of preventable VKDB 🥽👩‍🔬🧬🧪⚛️🍎

/6 ALL newborns are at risk as K does not effectively pass through the placenta. "How did we survive this long? I want a natural birth!" Well, we didn't. Babies died all the time before we developed medical methods to prevent deaths from issues such as these. Vitamin K IS "natural". 🍎⚛️🧪🧬👩‍🔬🥽

/6 ...Babies just can't get it well and the shot helps reduce risk of VKDB by providing the necessary K your baby needs. Breastfed babies are also at risk of additional forms of VKDB. The shot is simply a synthetic form of K in a stabilized solution. 🥽👩‍🔬🧬🧪⚛️🍎

/6 For anyone worried about synthetic vs "natural" compounds, synthetics are often purer, more stable, & engineered to be more effective and SAFER than "natural" compounds. So do what's right for your baby, get them the vitamin K they need, prevent VKDB, and avoid risk of fatal brain bleeds. 🍎⚛️🧪🧬👩‍🔬🥽

/6 here's a helpful resource: Oh and talk to your doctor about the hepatitis B vaccine for your baby as well. The fact I had to sign a waiver in order to get the vaccine for my baby because of the current misinformation is sad. 🥽👩‍🔬🧬🧪⚛️🍎 health.ucdavis.edu/blog/cultiva...

Thank you! I was just so disappointed to hear about it and want to get out some information. The hospital said they'd had two recent deaths because of it and it was completely preventable. That's one small hospital...
