Am I just completely naive, or is the question Truby poses in "Anatomy of Story" about "why am I the one writing this?" not just "because it was my fucking idea?" Is that not enough? I liked "Anatomy" but the more and more I work on story ideas, the less and less I care about it... #scriptsky

yeah, i had the same experience with *Anatomy* – i feel like it’s all about how to assemble the various elements, and then, somehow, they just click together and create a cool narrative maybe it’s tools are better suited to fixing/improving a first draft? – although i haven’t tried

I actually did that with a completed draft and I do think it helped me, especially the "characters as different answers to the moral question"... but starting from an idea? It feels *so* bloated every time I try.

It does seem as if the writer is increasingly expected to be an engaging story themselves aside from their work.
