1. History isn’t there to be liked or disliked. 2. History is there to be learned from. 3. History offends you? Even better. Then you’re less likely to repeat it. It’s that simple.

If only history’s lessons were heeded. I look at what Israel has done to Gaza & the Palestinians, and it makes me cringe that of all of people of the world who’d engage in genocide, it would be the Jews after what’s happened to them in their history; one would think they’d certainly know better.

Let's be clear, history isn't there 'for' anything. History is not a person or an organisation - it has no agenda. So history can be liked, loathed, offensive or a source of learning or even entertainment. Sorry, but I see posts like this and the lack of clarity makes them meaningless.

This corrupt admin totally ignores history & tradition. Like German Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebells, they tell us what they want us to know & repeat it over & over. That becomes truth for the ignorant & unenlightened fools among us. That's why we are where we are at now.

Some world leaders don't like history and rewrite it to their taste. Or you simply leave out certain facts. The invention of the plane for example: everybody knows the Wright brothers in 1903. However, French Clément Ader in 1890 flew 50 meters with a steam engine powered plane but crashed.

Meh, history - like anything - is to be questioned and subjected to critical thinking. As Virginia Woolf said: "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman". Or, I might add, a man claiming her achievement as his own.
