In the afternoon I headed down to Bridgeport with Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Chicago to talk to neighbors about #TreatmentNotTrauma. We collected signatures demanding alders sign on to a plan to ensure free mental health services are available to all Chicagoans.

That includes mental health clinics in all 50 wards, designed with services that are tailored to the needs of each community. For example in Chinatown, language access is a huge barrier to mental health access, particularly for Chinese American seniors. Our elders deserve accessible care!

#TreatmentNotTrauma a would support and strengthen the CARE program that provides trained mental health professionals to respond to crises rather than armed police officers. This is a program that will save lives and make our communities safer! collaborativeforcommunitywellness.org

Afterward, I took a long bike ride up the lakeshore path back to Uptown. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, though the wind was in my face the whole time. (I've heard the wind gradients called "Dutch hills" in the past, but I think we can also call them "Chicago hills" as the windy city.)

Back in Uptown, I biked passed where I had passed out flyers earlier in the day for North Uptown Neighbors Association's upcoming neighborhood cleaning day. I had several conversations with neighbors who were excited for the opportunity to take care of each other and our neighborhood.

This sort of local, block by block community care is just as crucial for building a Chicago that works for everyone as broader electoral and policy change. I hope to see many of you there and around the neighborhood this summer!
