Óliver Torres of Rayados de Monterrey on when football became a serious commitment

During the day I was happy because I was studying and playing football, so I didn’t think about it. But when I got home at night, even though I lived with two wonderful host families, my own family wasn’t there, and it was very hard. The following year, at 12, I was given the chance to try out with Atlético de Madrid. They let me stay, but they didn’t trust me enough to offer me a place in the residence, so my parents would have had to cover my accommodation and all my expenses. My sister was turning 18, and she had planned to study in Cáceres with her friends. Instead, she changed part of her life to look after me and accompany me. That is how my story at Atlético de Madrid began at 12.Super messed up from Atlético to ‘not trust’ him in the residence. Could you imagine at that young age to do this? Imagine all of the stories of players who didn’t make it and had to travel across the world into an unknown enviroment at this age. Very brave.
