He went the full length of the pitch, winning the ball on the edge of Bayern’s penalty box. He continued his run immediately with no hesitation, all the way to the other end of the pitch. He never stopped moving.Upamecano had a forward, Lennart Karl, to his left when he was played through, in on goal. It was him, one-v-one with the keeper, with only Karl to his left. He’s not going to get into this position very often. He looked him off immediately. Never thought about not trying to score himself.I love when defenders are given this level of freedom. He has to have full confidence in his team and the team’s setup to get forward like that without thinking.Too many players have to think about where they are supposed to be rather than where they should be in today’s game.Upamecano had no other thought in his mind when he made that run. He knew where Harry Kane was, he knew where the other forwards were. Everyone was helping out defensively. Upamecano went where he was needed.
