Some earlier composition tests where I was just testing overall shape and color. Can see the early rough concept art as placeholders in these.

Wanted to experiment with bringing an outline to the party. My original concepts all used a rough ink brush look that gave it a gritty character I like. Not a straight up black outline here since I'm using some layer tricks, but I like that it mimics how I've treated lines in the pixel art.
