In an advanced country, people don't wait in airports and on freeways to go home for the holidays. They ride high-speed trains.

There are better ways of doing things. (But to get started, a society has to recognize the old ways aren't working any more.)

It's not all about being "green." (Though that's a part of it.) It's mostly about being smart, and efficient, and, in the long run, competitive.

But you're unlikely to demand something you haven't actually experienced, and have no practical knowledge of. The US used to be the world's greatest rail nation. Today, 98% of Americans have never set foot on an intercity train.
