I stopped using tabs and never looked back — I prefer fuzzy search where you can just do `route+` instead of searching for things with your eyes.

Setting custom labels patterns in settings can help in some areas (tabs and commnd+P for example), but sadly it's not used everywhere, such as source control. "workbench.editor.customLabels.patterns": { "**/+*": "${dirname} (${filename}.${extname})" },
