It is a failure of science communication that we don't see severe illness. HIPAA doesn't prevent hospitals from sharing, so long as they have permission. Why didn't we see people dying of COVID? Why don't we see people dying of Measles? 1/

It is possible to communicate severity without inciting panic. As pushback flares against necessary public health measures, so must the seriousness of the depictions of illness. Never forget the success of the TRUTH campaign in fighting nicotine addiction, which is once again on the rise. 3/

On a personal note: smoking is gross. Living in a smoking household is very bad for everyone. I will never be free from asthma. Please don't take my word for it. Listen to public health specialists -- especially those working in communities with differing intersections of marginalization. /end
