I can never tell. Attempting to upload to it other than small files and it always times out.

What is the size of a "not small files"?

I tried old front cover DVDs so some were over a GB. Even a 600-800 file would time out so I gave up.

I'd suggest using the Internet Archive command-line tool for all uploads. Web browsers just don't handle things well.

That's what I thought so I tried that and had same issues. Even got 1GB up and down but would always go slow or time out.
