As an American who has lived in Europe for almost 40 years, something I came to realize after moving here is that Americans value comfort and convenience much more than Europeans do. A clear cultural difference.

Summers getting hotter. People without ac can die from heatstroke. Heat pump AC and solar panels so the electric company pays you. More wind and alternative power needed to help environment. Maybe stop arguing about it and work together to improve conditions for everyone. 💚

The thing no one has really mentioned in all of this is the role of geography. Europe is on the same latitude as Canada and Northern USA, while the US ranges much closer to the equator. We get higher temps, more sun, and higher UV index than most of Europe. The heat in the South US is more extreme.

I moved to Seattle in the 90s and bought a home. My father (in Kansas and AC repairman) only had one question: what kind of AC unit does it have and what’s the size?😂 Me: it doesn't have AC (VERY common there) I thought he was gonna have a stroke. You bought a new house with no AC!?!?

Primarily they a) haven’t really needed it until recently and b) their electrical infrastructure isn’t built to handle the load AC would place on it. We should be pumping money into researching better/more efficient AC design.
