This is a great podcast in that it shows how analysis of politics that is grounded in data and empiricism (Bouie) has an uphill battle in DC/NY against ideology and pure uncut reactionary ignorance (Cottle) www.nytimes.com/2026/08/22/o...

The idea that Trump won in 2024 “because people lost their jobs” to “woke 1” is completely unempirical. By every measure, Harris most probably lost because of inflation under Biden, and even outperformed expectations from the fundamentals. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/the-dnc-au...
Cottle also had a fundamental ignorance of public opinion on the Democratic Party. She cites the “weak, woke, and whiny” line when polls show voters see the GOP as more extreme! www.gelliottmorris.com/p/new-poll-d...
This argument would be shocking if it weren’t so typical. Unfortunately this is par for the course among longtime centrist pundits who have spent their entire lives in the East Coast media bubble and have not educated themselves on voter psychology www.gelliottmorris.com/p/the-strate...
I could buy it if it were somehow claimed to rely on something empirical but it’s all vibes. And in that case, you could argue the opposite - that voters are fed up with centrism.
