I'm pretty sure this was known from the very start. Am I crazy?

Not the ai training part of course, but data being sold to create tracking technology was a critic raised fairly soon.

It's one thing to say we knew it was collecting & tracking data that would probably be used for something negative. It's another thing to know that data would be explicitly used to guide bombs and bullets to kill people. IMO Pokemon Company should sue them, this would be a major blow to their brand.
