What a silly "alternative"! Will A/C prevent flood & drought, collapse of food production, climate change making their homes uninhabitable for more than a third of our world's population? As a short term coping, it will be beneficial to those at the outlet - and should ONLY be fed by PV electricity!

If you don't reduce emissions then eventually no amount of air conditioning is going to save you. Asking the public what they want is moronic. Because half the public are mentally children. They also want free beer and for it to rain gumdrops. There are so many solutions they could try BEFORE a/c.

It also doesn't mean they don't value the plans to reduce emissions & move to a greener economy. We can if course, do both, but that doesn't make for a snappy AI generated clickbait headline.

Yeah they’re not really alternative interventions in any meaningful sense

Air conditioning pushes up power consumption, which means more power generation, which means more emissions. OK, we could install more solar panels, to power the air con, but our ancient power grid can't cope. We have solar panels on our house & oddly enough, they actually shade the house too!!

Except that it pushes up power consumption. Passive measures would be better. More natural shade, heat reflective roofs & walls, external shutters, etc. Mediterranean houses look different for a reason! We need to adapt, not just bolt-on.
