Shakarian writes as though communist actors have never sought the overthrow of the United States. He has never read Chambers' "Witness"? Or this 2021 Mamdani quote: "But then there are also other issues that we firmly believe in, whether it's BDS, or... seizing the means of production...".

Page 15 of this issue is an advertisement that presents a falsehood: "In the US there is a school shooting every school day." Can't The Nation afford to not run advertising presenting such falsehoods?
