🧵 5 checks before I call a beat FINISHED. Veteran rules, learned the expensive way:

1. The phone test. If it doesn't knock on a phone speaker, it doesn't knock. Most people will never hear your music any other way.

2. The mute test. Solo every element. If a sound isn't earning its place, it's taking space from one that would.

3. The hook in 10 seconds. A&R, sync supervisors, fans — nobody owes you the second minute. Front-load the feeling.

4. Space for the voice. A beat is a room you're building for an artist to live in. Overproduce it and there's nowhere to sit.
