[Thread] I have good news and bad news and good news. 😁 Good: The Expanse team has reformed to create a media company, Expanding Universe. Bad: They haven't announced a sequel to The Expanse. Good: They're adapting James S.A. Corey's new sci-fi trilogy into a TV series for Amazon MGM Studios! 1/7

I've just finished The Mercy of Gods audiobook and I was hoping the whole time we'd get this at some point, didn't expect it so soon. All the aliens are going to be an ambitious challenge, hoping for some practical creatures.

Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, aka James S.A. Corey, The Expanse showrunner Naren Shankar, and The Expanse director Breck Eisner have come together on this very promising project, which I'm likely to be talking about a lot hehehe After all, why change a winning team? 2/7

And so their first project is a TV adaptation of the new book series The Captive's War, for Amazon MGM Studios. The first novel, The Mercy of Gods, was published in August. A first novella set in the same universe, Livesuit, was released in October. Set in a distant future of galactic empire...

...alien civilizations, and inspired by the biblical Book of Daniel, The Captive’s War follows a group of prisoners who rise from the ashes of catastrophe to destroy their conqueror’s society from within. It is an epic tale about the transformative power of individuality in a totalitarian world.

But that's not all. Breck Eisner: "Expanding Universe is focused on developing sci-fi narratives with sweeping world-building and elevated storylines, geared toward multi-platform expressions in filmed entertainment, gaming, and publishing. The Captive’s War is a perfect launchpad for our model."

Oh dang! As I read The Mercy of Gods I was thinking that chances of an adaptation would be slim on account of the amount of SFX they'd need for the aliens. I'm glad to be wrong, though!

El libro se llama “James S. A. Corey”. Es horrible que pongan el nombre del autor/es más grande que el título del libro y que todas las letras tapen la ilustración de la cubierta.

Did you read The Mercy of Gods? I need to pick it up - I loved the Expanse so much, and I re-read the books already. Its universe just lives rent-free in my head at all time 🤧

So happy to hear this! I'm currently into The Expanse S3, I just can't thank you enough for having brought it back to my attention. That's one of the best sci-fi shows I've ever watched (I didn't read the book though). The attention to detail, the consistency of everything concerning space travel…

I read the first book a couple of months ago. Made me go hmm, and I wasn't sure I would continue with the series. Either way, it's interesting news.

Note in their last discussion they stopped saying they were completely separate universe. Obit is still connected. But lets hear the multimedia company once the Alcon Ent is no longer connected. And see what the content is added by Amazon MGM.

I listened to the audiobook recently, it's quite bigger in scope. Actually, it feels like a sequel set thousands of years in the future, except no mention of the protomolecule.

I’m more confident than I’ve ever been that we’ll eventually get three more seasons. It’s fantastic to see Naren, Daniel, Ty, and Breck working together on a new series and under a new production studio. Absolute all stars.
