[Ongoing thread] Spaceballs 2 is coming in 2027 - for the 40th anniversary of the first film! It will be released in theaters by Amazon MGM Studios, and Mel Brooks, very soon 99 🤯, director and co-writer of the original movie, will reprise the role of Yogurt.

The film has been described as "‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” Obviously 😏 Josh Greenbaum (Too Funny to Fail, Strays) is helming the comedy from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, who is also rumored to star.

"Writing partners Samit and Hernandez are known for their work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Mutant Mayhem, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, Addams Family 2 and the Disney+/Lucasfilm special Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy." My older thread:

"Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Lewis Pullman will play a character named Starburst, the sun of Queen Vespa (Zuniga) and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman). The actor's father starred in the original as the dashing Lone Starr, and will reprise the role."

"Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are set to reprise their respective roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet in the new Spaceballs movie from Amazon MGM Studios, with Keke Palmer (One of Them Days) joining the cast, sources tell Deadline." RICK MORANIS IS BACK!! 🤯🤯

"It's surreal because I grew up with Spaceballs and when the movie was prophesized in the first film, when Yogurt says, "God willing, we'll all meet again in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money," I, like everyone else, was just anticipating that that would happen sooner than 40 years later."

“[My phone] hasn’t rung yet, so I have to come here and just say it,” Finn actor John Boyega says during a panel at Dragon Con. “So, they could pick up the phone and give me a call. Let me make Spaceballs legit.” 😁

Production on Spaceballs 2 has now officially begun. And they released a photo from the table read, just like Lucasfilm did for The Force Awakens (2015). 😁

Imagine Features President Jeb Brody: “‘Spaceballs’ is all about joy and and silliness.”

“We've been wanting to do that forever and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not. And so doing it on a movie like Spaceballs 2 was just like, ‘What simulation … what world are we in right now?’ “

About Rick Moranis return in Spaceballs 2: Mel Brooks: "I said, “Look, do you want to go to your grave without ever coming back to show business again in any way?” Then I said, “This is the way. This is the only way. Spaceballs, Dark Helmet — that’s your re-entrance.” I got him to do it. He’s..."

"...never been better. He’s even better than in the first edition. He’s so good. He’s a strange, wonderful, lovely guy and a very talented comic."

Recently tried to rewatch the original. Its awful.

Nobody really makes spoofs any more.
