RIP British fantasy and sci-fi illustrator, modeller, and art director John Blanche. This fantastic artist was especially well-known for his work on Warhammer (including 40K, etc). He retired from work at Games Workshop three years ago only. He was 77.

RIP to John Blanche, the best to ever do it. Before Warhammer was even Warhammer he understood what it was: weird, gross, unsettling, maximalist.

"I’m painfully aware that I’ll probably not survive what I want to achieve. I find if I do one thing, it generates four, five or six other things in my imagination and if I do any of those, they also generate the same again." Interview with John Blanche:

I love how everyone is showing off their favorite works to pay tribute to an artist who has made his mark on the history of illustration. πŸ₯°

Damn, RIP to the legend that is John Blanche, the defining visionary of Warhammer 40K at its darkest and weirdest. So many iconic pieces of his work are burned into my mind (of course, the 3rd edition box art that hooked me and my brother on 40K), but I always loved the times he took on the Eldar.
