Mark Carney's inspiring and aspirational speech at the WEF is sadly undermined by the fact that his actual policies as PM consistently demonstrate that he doesn't actually hold the values about which he spoke. Here's an annotated breakdown of where words & policy differ. bsky.app/profile/sust...

Mark Carney vs Mark Carney. Carney made an exemplary speech at the WEF. Sadly, his words and his actual policies tell two very different stories. When words & actions don't match, actions matter most. Orator Carney really needs to sit PM Carney down & give him a stern talking to. A 🇨🇦 poli 🧵 1/

Nonsense. Two things are true: 1. We need to band together with middle powers to reduce our US reliance. 2. We are, and will be, incredibly reliant on the US for decades to come. He’s got to thread that needle, and you have to START somewhere.

"We've got to start somewhere" is a very weak defence of lying to voters, attacking human rights, supporting genocide, deliberately worsening already record inequality, & climate arson that absolutely won't strengthen us being that "somewhere." You don't thread a needle with bullshit.

Out of curiosity, is it freeing US-owned energy projects from having to follow Canadian laws that you think will make Canada "more self reliant"? bsky.app/profile/sust... Or scorching the ecosystem into a hothouse hellscape with collapsing agriculture? bsky.app/profile/sust...

I'm noticing something about @mark-carney.bsky.social's growing list of proposed "nation building projects" that seems kind of important: the nation they seem to be focussed on building isn't Canada. These are climate hostile policies that put US profits before Canadian benefits. It sucks. 🧵1/

Trump is a senile man-child who has surrounded himself with a strange ensemble of untalented, irrational and ignorant sycophants. They naively think they are superior beings with a God-given mandate to rule the world. It is a pathetic delusion that will cripple America's influence in the world.

They think they have the god given right to rule the world because they’re Americans. This has always been their take. American “exceptionalism”. Every administration has taken this as given. The Trump regime has just abandoned all pretence otherwise.

The speech scared the shit out of the Trump regime. Which is why Bessent has the job of supporting Alberta separatists and undermining Carney’s credibility by claiming he “aggressively walked back” his Davos speech. Time to expel Hoekstra.
