Being richer than the rest of the country is definitely a partial motivation for (at least) the independence movements in Catalonia, Northern Italy, and arguably Scotland. Quebec is somewhat unusual in having no real economic reason for independence

England punished Scotland by banning it's language Gaelic, by outlawing Tartan and banned the bagpipes ..... Indigenous Scots ... descended from Gaels and Picts. Scotland is a COUNTRY in it's own right ..... Alberta and Quebec are merely provinces.

The difference is even more stark when one considers the fact Alberta didn't even exist prior to joining Canada - it was carved out of a territory and granted provincial status - as well as the fact that the entirety of what is now called Alberta is Indigenous land. Alberta is not Scotland.
