The peace sign made its debut at the Aldermaston Marches in the late ’50s and early ’60s. It was--and still is--the logo for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Fitting to remember CND and march organizer Peggy Duff as belligerent nuclear powers push the Doomsday Clock closer to midnight.

“I think we made people, and that includes statesmen, aware of the horror of nuclear war,” said Aldermaston March organizer Peggy Duff. “Nuclear weapons have not been used again since 1945, and there has not been a nuclear war so far.”
