I’m going to go so far as to say that this is anti-scientific method, which is specifically a playbook for testing ideas where you can observe outcomes but don’t understand the mechanism

People think of mathematicians and scientists as the same things. They aren't. Mathematicians and scientists are two totally opposite kinds of people who have to spend all their time together. Presumably engineering is what happens when they fuck.
