oh I've done this for printf for embedded reasons and shouldn't be hard to go the other way! it's a type checked macro: printf!("hello {name}!") zero-cost expands to roughly printf(c"hello %*.s!", name.len(), name.as_ptr()) I should rewrite it for open source and parse integers as well 🤔

it's also a safe macro and I see no reason why most invocations of sscanf couldn't also have a safe Rust version, either fallible or with dynamic allocation there could even be a newtype that implements FromStr to specifically use libc machinery but still use Rust traits
