How is it these big, strong, scary, powerful federal agencies that will utterly fuck you sideways for blinking wrong rolled over and deflated when a group of dorks led by the world's most thin skinned narcissist showed up and made illegal and ridiculous demands? Was America always this weak?

Because their actions are mandated by Congress. The bureaucracy only got so inefficient because of regulations imposed on them by the people we elected to Congress. Forcing means-based testing on the population and decreasing the size of the federal bureaucracy despite an explosion in population.

So how is it they can act with impunity and face zero consequences while breaking entire swaths of society and looting billions, while the average person has to worry about getting thrown out in the cold for missing rent, or getting shot by a cop for sneezing weird?
