Re: the South African Truth and Reconciliation committee thing - while there have been bunches of these, few have been successful. None as successful as Arch Bishop Desmund Tutu's. Chile had some success I suppose. Its kind of easy to set these up, super hard to really follow through in earnest.

We think US is a power-keg now, but we ain't close to SA late 80s/early 90s leading up to Mandela's release and the commission in the mid 90s. Joburg's a rare city that was nearly destroyed and rebuilt 5 times its short history. It was run out of a bar for most that time. Nonviolence started there.

You might recognize that tower from the more recent Judge Dredd movie. That city shot from the previous post was taken from a cool bar at the top. I did NOT take the stairs in going up Ponte tower. Some folks race it though.
