Sony emailing everyone about PlayStation terms of use during a backlash over the end of discs and a lack of digital ownership is certainly a choice

Sony putting up the Mr Burns "Remember. You're here forever." sign and going well that's that taken care of. Feels strange that this wasn't already the language in the TOS, either way.

Hum you do understand Xbox is the exact same issue? (not even talking about everything else wrong about Xbox) They may not remove physical discs in the next generation of console (if it ever exist), which I doubt it, but they will follow in the same steps at some point.

> Hum you do understand Xbox is the exact same issue? While true, it's at least not tied to one specific piece of hardware in case I decide to change.

I mean, stuff on GOG is licensed to you also? Almost anything they sell has a bit in the license vaguely similar to the second screenshot.

The difference is that you can download an offline install with GOG that works forever with no authentication. That's a level of trust and user friendliness seen nowhere else.

What a disgusting path they are paving for the gaming industry. They need to change all the purchase buttons to licenses on the Playstation Store. Otherwise they are trying to trick people into buying something they are not allowed to own.

I think their software strategy, along with the absurd hardware costs, might just do the shooting for them if they decide to launch the next gen anytime soon.

I don't get upset over the switch to digital only.. can't even remember last time I bought a disc... But that answer from Sony just pissed me off and that alone is enough to stop buying their crap even if it's the same everywhere.. I don't _need_ anything from them...
