Judging by the comments here, a lot of people watch them... but they don't seem to know why. Now that is the real mystery.

I clearly can never be a detective in a small town, as my past is not full of dark secrets. I'd have to settle as being the bumbling comic relief.

If you ever meet a world famous detective or crime novelist, run before you're either the next victim or the murderer.

I always thought a good ending to one of these series would be a shady cabal of community members who intentionally draw in and kill journalists/podcasters/reporters to help put their town on the map and grow their tourism and keep their economy up.

There is NO mystery or any conspiracy - just tourism. ...except for the fact they keep killing people who find out that there isn't a mystery - just neverending capitalism. Like Hot Fuzz meets the Corporation.

And can we please stop making them move sooooo slooow? Not every series needs 8 episodes. It’s the series equivalent of a 3 hour movie with a story line that fits on a single page.

They've got to serialise Porpunka and Desi Freeman's murders, escape and hunt, yet. I can't get enough of them, keep them coming, it puts Australian towns and regions on the map and highlights that not all crime is happening in Redfern or Blackstone, Broadmeadows or St Kilda.

The Desi Freeman one would be too expensive to film due to the hundreds of police who had to leave their local mcdonalds to look for a cop killer. Had he killed anyone else, it would be a lot cheaper to film due to only needing a handful of police.
