On the other hand, would the internet have grown as much without it? Like I see what she's saying, but at the same time people want stuff for "free" and a great part of the population would've just ignored the internet had they had to pay for every site

Yes, but obviously the fact that so many resources on the internet are and we're "free" in my opinion helped a great bit. Would anyone convince you to "try this new great site called YouTube where you could watch cat videos for the low low price of 20USD/month"?

On the internet, we have gone from being users to becoming a product. We are analysed and used to identify patterns of behaviour… All with the aim of selling us things we didn’t even know we "needed".
