Hacker News has an alarmingly high tolerance for slop content these days It also has social norms against accusing something of being written with AI, which means the community has trouble strengthening its immune system against that slop

My god the articles feel like they're all written by Claude. All the Claude writing really grates on me. It's as if I'm reading articles written by my dad all day. Sure, he's a decent writer, but I don't want to *only* read his stuff, plus if I wanted something, I'd just ask him.

Your comment reminded me that this generation of children is being raised, at least partly, by LLMs. I know multiple parents who ask Claude questions regularly about this or that. I imagine anthropomorphizing them as a third parent will be common in the future unfortunately.

Well, if Claude is better than the average parent at parenting, I'm glad parents are talking to Claude.

At the end of the day it’s a tool, and can be used for gain and for harm, so yea, I don’t disagree. But I am also not expecting this to make better parents. It will just amplify those who were trying to be good ones already.

Parenting is an interesting one because, on the one hand, billions of people have done it and shared their knowledge to the LLM training data is incredibly rich Whether or not the average of all of those tips is GOOD advice is another matter

Not to mention different cultures have wildly different parenting standards - advice for rising a child in the USA might not apply at all to a child in Spain or Vietnam, and vice-versa

Ones ability to vet advice as good or not is kind of the crux. Blindly trusting it is the problem, and where I can see irrevocable harm occurring. It is as simple as asking “How long can milk sit out?” and could be disastrous depending on the response you get, and how trusting you are as a parent.
