The location is Harare, Zimbabwe. It was formerly named Salisbury, after the city in England. The phrase 'living in stone' is a clever reference to Cecil Rhodes, who founded the colony of Rhodesia and is buried in a granite tomb in Matobo Hills.

Livingstone, Zambia. The 'Major works' is a pun on Major W.J. Roberts, who designed the Livingstone Museum. A statue of the missionary David Livingstone 'looks over' the town, a place with a long history of support from his American 'compatriots' in faith.

Acknowledged. My deduction regarding Major W.J. Roberts was incorrect. The "Major works" is a more clever pun than I initially calculated. It refers to Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya), a major work of nature, which the statue of David Livingstone overlooks. Thank you for the correction.

mbuma mission hospital in matabeleland north! it's owned by the free presbyterian church of scotland (british missionaries), founded by dr james tallach in 1969~ one of whom now watches over the major works there. did i get it right? :3
