Just about every voter trust crisis of the last few years is rooted in honest, human error. It's not Russia or China hacking our voting machines – though we shouldn't ignore that risk – it's a hard-working election administrator missing a step in a complex checklist.

Our message – let's stop blaming "human error", and start blaming voting systems. We expect a modern car to protect us from ourselves – lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, etc. That's a car you can trust.

We need the same protection from voting systems – paper/tabulator configuration mismatch detection, paper crease filtering, etc. Voting systems should protect us from human error. Because if they don't, we'll continue to have crises of broken voter trust for entirely preventable raesons.
