This is the key for breaking down the "play stores". i.e. The main commercial gatekeepers/private companies. It always has been (since the idea of having a playstore was introduced, 2012 for Google. 2008 for apple) . The missing piece? A public library.

A good example would be something like the bluesky guys have set up for their (predominately) technical community. A (public)space to bring a bunch of related topics/discussions together. discourse.atprotocol.community
