I’ve been of voting age since the late 90’s. I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t asked to show my DL to get my ballot. I live in TX, so maybe it’s different state to state. But the R’s make it sound like I can say any name I want and flash a smile to vote. What am I missing?

Why is this even a comparison and why is the Washington Post making it sound like it is?! Olive Garden is a private company; it has the right to restrict access (with some limits). Voting is the right of all citizens; restricting access is wrong legally and morally.

This analogy only works if you bought a ticket to vote and then gave that ticket to another person. Thankfully, voting doesn't work that way since it would be a poll tax, unconstitutional and absurd. Olive Garden democracy also would allow you to vote in multiple jurisdictions which is a US felony.

Does olive garden require an id that is government issued and includes proof of citizenship? Does it require people who have changed their name to provide extra documentation? No? Then it’s a stupid comparison..
