what is a dwarven particle accelerato (I have not read 5e yet still)

It’s just like an actual particle accelerator. The gm decided that the dwarves in our game were creating portal based accelerators that looked like maelstroms feeding into each other. We already established the orcs’ culture was centered around diving into great maelstroms. I jumped in, and died.
