🚨 The Code of Practice has been published. It treats Trans+ people as a 'third sex', and creates legal defences to make it more justifiable to exclude Trans+ people from single-sex spaces. A full explainer and digest will be in our newsletter on Saturday. For now, this is what we know 🧵

The topline is it codifies sex as 'biological', and regardless of having a gender recognition certificate, Trans+ people's sex will be considered as what they were assigned at birth. It sets out the impact this will have on the provision of sport, single-sex spaces, changing rooms and toilets.

A vast number of examples are given using trans people as the focus. In many examples, it stresses how discriminating against Trans+ people could breach the code. However, it offers more defences to afford organisations the ability to ban Trans+ people from single-sex associations and spaces.

Analysis by @jamiewareham.co.uk This is not the code of practice that anyone wants, gender-criticals or Trans+ people. It toes the line between saying Trans+ people are protected, while essentially treating them as a third sex that, in many circumstances, will force them to rely on unisex toilets.
