PALM SPRINGS -- The county sheriff has lent troops to Trump's LA war games, but the local police are holding steady with #TeamDemocracy. 1/4

Below is a quote from Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills who organized protest safety trainings ahead of #NoKingsProtest and had built a good rapport with the community prior to the recent bombing of a medical facility here. 2/4

He said, “There’s some people who want to oppress. We choose to empower. There are some trying to instill fear based use of police tactics. We choose to bring hope and compassion.” 3/4

"When you need support, [Palm Springs Police Dept.] will walk behind you. When you need an ally, we're gonna walk next to you and hold your hand. And when there are threats of violence and danger lurking, our warriors will walk in front of you and get on top of buildings." (Literally) 4/4 #NoKings

This gave me chills. Not used to seeing it, kind of made me weepy. If they hold true to this beautiful pledge, it will be a brave act in defiance of a violent regime. Community building became such a lost art for PDs nationwide…but this? This is how it’s done.

Seattle gets it ♥️🤍💙

Man, if our police could adopt this as a standard? What a wonderful world. It’s possible. It can be done! ❤️
