BREAKING: We're suing to stop Missouri from implementing new congressional district lines that violate the state constitution. Lawmakers are caving to President Trump's demands by pushing this unconstitutional map. Voters must choose their representatives, not the other way around.

Thank you. I am in the 5th district. I will get shifted to the 6th district if this map is allowed to be implemented. Aside from that, KC has a dark history of redlining and it infuriates me that MO would use lines drawn via Jim Crow laws steal representation from its citizens.

For anyone who sees this and doesn’t know, the line is drawn along Troost Ave. That location was originally a plantation where Rev James Porter owned slaves. After the Civil War, some of the “farm” was sold off. That became Millionaire’s Row.

Not wanting freed slaves to affect their property values, developers like JC Nichols used Jim Crow laws to corral black families into certain districts. The dividing line, Troost became one of the most stark divides regarding quality of life.
