$800 seems kind of high

I ordered clothing from France; DHL won't release it from customs without me providing a photo of the front and back of my social security card OR a screenshot of my IRS 1040. If I don't comply within three days, they're charging me $31 / day.

I don't know if $50 is the right amount, but letting consumers dodge import tariffs (hence further digging the budget hole) by ordering small parcels of low-quality and potentially dangerous goods individually packaged and sent from China (with the associated emissions), is not great for society...
