Okay somehow it's Friday and somehow we made it (congrats!) 🤯 To make the doomscroll easier, here's a thread of all the wild stuff we learned this week, starting with @brbarrett.bsky.social's analysis on why DOGE *is* the deep state (and Elon Musk's extended universe.)
Post
And like, oops: A now-deleted list containing hundreds of US government properties GSA plans to sell (under DOGE's vision) includes most of a highly sensitive federal complex that also houses a secretive CIA facility, WIRED has learned. 🫥
And guess what? Social security workers aren't allowed to read this story :( Why? New internet restrictions at the embattled SSA have cut off access to WIRED, along with other “general news” websites like The Washington Post and The New York Times.
We also put together an interactive map of the hundreds of government buildings the GSA plans to sell (in a now-deleted list they published on Tuesday.) Use our interactive tools to see where they are—and the congressional districts they're in: www.wired.com/story/map-fo...
What next, what next... oh right: Documents obtained by WIRED show the US Department of Defense is considering cutting up to 75 percent of workers who stop the spread of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons.
Also, a deep dive into Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, who has long held anti-surveillance views. Now she oversees a key surveillance program she once tried to dismantle.

And in case you missed this one from earlier in the week, here's how much some DOGE staffers make: six-figure taxpayer-funded salaries—sometimes from the very agencies they are cutting.
It’s been a busy few weeks at WIRED, and we’re just getting started. Many of you have asked how you can support our journalism in a bigger way, so we’ve introduced a new option for WIRED Superfans. Thank you all for your support, and we'll keep pushing on the stories that matter.
