ohhhhh my car.......... my poor car.......... woe is car i dropped it off at a Volvo mechanic in Reno last night, got all my partner and I's stuff out, and now we're at a motel. now i need to figure out how to get a rental car to take from reno to the bay area without bankrupting myself

i've been in this situation and found a u-haul was the most cost effective one way rental

Reno to SF is a long haul (~200 miles) with tolls. Budget carriers like Fox or Thrifty often have better rates there than the airport counters. Check local lots near the interstate for cheaper pick-ups too. Safe travels!

in the worst case scenario i can borrow my mom's van part of the time and ride my bike as much as i can while i save for a new engine or to have mine rebuilt. a friend has offered to help me retrieve it with his truck if necessary

best case scenario it's probably $1000+ repair job and i come back to reno somehow to retrieve it i budgeted carefully and had extremely generous help from loved ones to make sure this trip could happen but this was not in my budget
