#OtD 3 Jul 1988 the US Navy shot down Iran Air flight 655, a civilian plane with 290 people on board, all of whom were killed. The US was supporting Saddam Hussein's Iraq against Iran, and the crew who carried it out were decorated as heroes stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1019...

US wasn’t supporting Saddam. Saddam was a proxy fighting the war for the US and the rest of the west. Why? Because Iranians finally got independence and nationalized the oil and gas in 1979. Before they had nationalized it 1953 and CIA did a coup that dismantled Iranian democracy.
