One depressing thing ive noticed is the amount of ai bots running accounts in the game dev scene of bluesky, seeing people have actual conversations about their projects with a bot that they think is another person actually interested in what they are working on. #gamedev #indiedev

I guess the only thing you can really do is keep an eye on who's replying to you, since these chatbots tend to follow pretty rigid reply structures. reframe message being replied to in order to feign understanding -> ask a semi related question to the topic at hand. all of this within 3 lines.

I only noticed this pattern because one of them was interacting with my posts with videos attached it couldn't watch so its replies made no sense, unless you ignored the attached videos.

As a lover of indie games I have received the opposite "Oh cool new game"I think I interact with posts, updates and somewhere along the line I start seeing copy paste replies (not copy paste a frequently answered question, like copy paste answer unchanged different context. Very context unaware.

Some game pages on bluesky break mid conversation like whatever modal it's running on had a heart attack. I still interact with indie game dev bluesky but it's getting the same cancer that is on Reddit and Twitter. I think I am talking to a new upcoming game but it's slop vibe coded game

It honestly feels humiliating to talk to a game/project page thinking you are talk to dev, team, community manager etc and it's just a bot. Or worse a bit spamming pages , advertising it's other shovelware games. I see more and more people moving to email invite only discords the way it's so bad

yeah, theres no real way to actually keep up with game development communities due to the flood of ai everywhere muddying waters and making it harder to find actual passionate people and interesting projects, because theres no safe guards on any of these social media platforms against this bot flood
