Cursed thought: A furry is to an otherkin what a drag queen or king is to a trans person and similarly a holothere is to an otherkin the same as a transsexual is to a trans person. To properly explain this I need to show this term list of how the terms are used in the current context:

drag queen/king = someone who performs gender for fun furry = someone who performs species for fun trans person = someone with a different species than they were assigned at birth therian = someone who is a different species than assigned at birth transsexual=trans person who transitions physically

Not necessarily. Holothere is just about being physically nonhuman, the specified definition being regardless of change in the form. I coined beasthood exclusively to bridge that gap.
