In this animation, against which average(s) are the anomalies referenced? Typically in end-user climate data, a 30-year "rolling" average is used, which would result in distortions if used for something like this.

Yes, sorry (1991-2020) - it’s listed in the alt text and bottom left of the graphic that is hard to see.

Thank you! I suspect the animation would look much worse if against an average that used a longer/earlier period, if good SST data were available for earlier decades.
